NCI Overview
This is an outstanding training opportunity or coaches at all levels of experience. Whether you are one of the numerous new coaches who was literally coerced into taking the speech or debate position in order to get your teaching job, or you are a seasoned veteran looking to expand and enhance your Speech & Debate repertoire, this program is guaranteed to surpass your expectations! And they are held in a setting that will rival your summer vacation plans: Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with its beaches, resorts, seafood, and much, much more.

NCI Curriculum
The NCI is an intensive two week workshop for high school and college coaches only. At the institute you will be able to tailor your program by selecting your focus area. You will learn all about competitive high school debate and speech from some of the top instructors and coaches in the nation. Your day will consist of observing some of the top coaches in action, attending focus area lectures and activities, and receiving specialized instruction to meet your coaching needs.

Lectures will focus on classroom teaching, extra-curricular coaching, procurement of materials, and all facets of managing a Speech and Debate Program. Coaches at all levels will leave the NCI with materials and ideas that will sustain their programs for years to come.

FFI will provide certificates of completion for participation in the National Coaches Institute. Coaches, who are seeking continuing education credits, will receive documentation accounting for all of the classes they attended.

NCI Course Areas
You will have a choice of the following coaching areas that tailor your institute experience to your coaching needs! There will be hundreds of classes to observe, debates and performances to watch, individual coaching sessions to audit and small group seminars to participate in. However, in order to maximize your institute instruction, we ask that you register for only one of these areas. If you are interested in more than one area, we ask that you select a primary course of instruction, along with a secondary course of instruction.

Debate (Congressional Debate and Public Forum Debate)
Interpretation (Dramatic, Humorous, Duo and Oral Interpretation)
Individual Events (Extemporaneous Speaking and Original Oratory)
New Coach (sampling of all the events and curriculum on program management)
