Interpretation at FFI is designed as a multilevel lab system so all students get individual attention to best meet their needs and develop their strengths. Performance theory is taught but practical application, geared toward the performer’s region and ability is emphasized. Piece selection is crucial and FFI prides itself on one of the best libraries for student’s to choose from, and the best staff to guide them in that process. Our goal is not just this one performance, however; we know that student’s need to cultivate skills to further their own growth, develop multiple events, and to bring back to their programs, so learning to be self-sufficient is also an FFI goal. Our students’ success results from one of the lowest coach-student ratios in the country!
The interpretation extension camp is designed for students who already participated in the FFI and wish to further develop their performances through individualized instruction and feedback specific to their skills. In addition to building confidence and stimulating creativity, students will develop a greater understanding of their literature and characters. One of the benefits of the extension is that it is taught by our most senior staff. Another is that it gives advanced students the opportunity to start another interpretive event. Upon completion of the extension, students will be supplied with specific strategies that they can use throughout the upcoming season to polish and perfect their performances.
